Taylor, Mich. (September 26, 2011) - Masco Asia, through
Masco's Liberty Hardware business unit, recently provided a grant to the
Sandu County Education Bureau of Guizhou to improve educational
facilities in a remote, poverty-stricken area of Southwest China.
The 40-year-old Shuangzhai Elementary School, located in the Guizhou
Province, lacks facilities as basic as a safe, accessible entrance and
indoor plumbing. Construction is nearing completion on the facility,
which will be named the Masco School of Hope, a modern,
36,000-square-foot facility housing nearly 90 students, grades one to
four, and featuring a playground, two washrooms and teacher offices.
"The charity efforts of Masco Asia have been to focus on improving
the lives of others and delivering hope to underprivileged communities
like the Guizhou Province," said James Feng, vice president of Masco
Asia. "We feel proud of Masco Corporation's citizenship in serving those
in need in the communities where our companies and employees reside
around the world."
Masco Asia employees identified the school's desperate need for a
safe building and raised an initial gift of $15,000 for the Sandu
Education Bureau to launch the project. Masco Asia's parent company,
Liberty Hardware, funded the balance of the rebuilding project.
Construction on the Masco School of Hope started this spring and is
expected to conclude in time for fall classes.
